Buriram Man Apologizes for Content Mocking Cambodian Soldiers That Provoked Thailand, Fears Misunderstanding and Safety Risks

A man from Buriram apologized and offered clarification after making a video dressed as a Cambodian soldier mocking Thailand. He said he only intended to earn extra income, did not expect it to go viral, and cause misunderstanding, and now fears for his safety.

On 27 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Teerasak, also known as “Ton,” from Lahan Sai District, Buriram Province, a general laborer, came forward to explain and apologized to society and the Thai public after making a video mocking Cambodian soldiers provoking Thai troops. He dressed in a Cambodian soldier’s outfit made from his father’s ranger uniform and a hat purchased from Chong Chom market, just before the border checkpoint closure. He held a handmade wooden gun resembling a real firearm and edited in Cambodian soldier voices. The video went viral on social media, leading people to mistakenly believe he was a real Cambodian soldier. Concerned for his safety when going out, he apologized for creating such content.

Mr. Teerasak added that after two rounds of border clashes, he was affected and had to evacuate from the risk area, unable to earn a living as usual. Since it is also the rubber tapping off-season with no income, he and friends created various videos to earn some money, having done so for just over a month. He insisted the video was only meant to mock Cambodian soldiers provoking Thai troops. However, social media and several media outlets spread the claim that he was a Cambodian soldier instigating Thai troops, causing him distress and fear of being misunderstood and unsafe when traveling. Therefore, he wanted to clarify and apologize to the Thai public and promised to create videos more cautiously in the future.

The admin of the page that shared the video revealed that they were assisting and supporting the content creator by providing entertainment-simulated scenarios. They acknowledged that using real sounds from the border incident might have led some viewers to mistakenly believe it was an actual event, potentially causing confusion. Hence, they advised the content creator to exercise greater caution in producing works to prevent possible negative impacts.
