The Meteorological Department forecasts weather for the next 7 days and warns that from 3-5 March 2026, upper Thailand should beware of dangers from thunderstorms, strong gusts, hail, and lightning.
On 27 February 2026, it was reported that the Meteorological Department has forecast the weather for the 7-day period from 27 February to 4 March 2026, stating that from 28 February to 2 March, upper Thailand will experience hot weather with some thunderstorms in certain areas due to low pressure caused by heat and prevailing westerly winds covering the region.
From 3 to 5 March 2026, upper Thailand will experience seasonal storms beginning in the Northeast. The East, Central region, Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as the North, will be affected subsequently. These storms will feature thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, hail, and locally heavy rain, with possible lightning in some areas. Afterwards, the heat will subside due to a high-pressure area or cold air mass moving in from China, covering the Northeast and South China Sea. This will bring southerly and southeasterly winds over the Northeast, Central, East, and the Gulf of Thailand, combined with westerly wind currents moving through the North and Northeast, while upper Thailand remains hot.
For the South, from 28 February to 3 March 2026, rainfall will decrease as northwesterly winds cover the Andaman Sea, Southern region, and Gulf of Thailand. The waves in the Andaman Sea will weaken, with wave heights around 1 meter, but in areas with thunderstorms, waves may exceed 2 meters.
From 4 to 5 March 2026, rainfall will increase, with some heavy rain possible, due to strengthened easterly and southeasterly winds covering the Gulf of Thailand, Southern region, and Andaman Sea. Wave activity in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea will intensify, with waves in the lower Gulf reaching 1-2 meters, and over 2 meters in areas experiencing thunderstorms.
Precautions
From 3 to 5 March 2026, people in upper Thailand are advised to be cautious of dangers from thunderstorms, strong gusts, hail, and lightning. They should avoid open areas, large trees, and unstable billboards, and refrain from traveling through areas experiencing storms during this period. Farmers should strengthen fruit trees and prepare to protect crops and livestock from possible damage, as well as take care of their health during changing weather conditions.
