The mother of Private Detsak, the latest soldier to lose a leg after stepping on a landmine, watches over her son outside the operating room. She revealed having a dream that felt like an omen. Now, she prays for one thing: for her son to recover. The surgery was recently successful, and he has been transferred to the ICU.
Today, 27 Feb 2026 GMT+7, at Surin Central Hospital, Mrs. Amka Trikam, 56, mother of Private Detsak Trikam who lost his right leg after stepping on a landmine at the Erawan base in Chong Rayi on the Thai-Cambodian border in Kab Choeng district, Surin province, along with relatives traveled from Sisaket province to visit Private Detsak’s condition with concern after he was admitted for treatment at Surin Central Hospital.
Mrs. Amka Trikam, mother of Private Detsak, revealed that her son was about to complete one year of service in May. He was previously stationed at Prasat Ta Muen Thom and had recently been transferred to the base where the incident occurred. They had just spoken on the phone yesterday about ordering supplies. She learned about the injury when someone called her at 7 a.m. Last night, she dreamed her son was falling into water but didn’t drown, which she now sees as a premonition before receiving the news.
She added that her son had called before to talk about his life but had never mentioned landmines. However, some of his friends had been killed by landmines at Prasat Ta Muen Thom. He had just taken leave and returned home on 16 Feb. After staying home for 3-4 days, he went back to duty, but they kept in daily contact since she lives alone. He regularly sent her money, which she asked him to save but he refused. She feels proud and happy that he became a soldier. When she received the call about the injury, she was shocked and unsure what to do. Knowing he was in surgery brought some relief. Now, she only wishes for him to recover quickly and be with her again.
Meanwhile, reporters confirmed that doctors have successfully completed surgery on Private Detsak, who has since been moved to the sterile ICU room. His condition has improved and is now out of danger.
