Harsh Life of 13-Year-Old Boy with Leukemia Injured in Traffic Accident Revealed Family in Extreme Poverty

The harsh life of a 13-year-old boy suffering from leukemia who was injured in a traffic accident has been revealed. His impoverished family abandoned him to live with a bedridden grandmother and a disabled aunt who sells vegetables to earn income, residing in the nooks of a hospital building. Most recently,a volunteer group has coordinated with the Deputy Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat to provide assistance.

On 28 Feb 2026 GMT+7, a volunteer group from the Facebook page "Little Life Protector" reported being notified about a 13-year-old boy injured in a traffic accident and receiving treatment at Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital. Initially, the identity and origins of the injured boy were unknown. He had severe wounds and swelling on his face and body. Doctors mobilized to provide emergency care. After the boy regained consciousness, information was gathered, leading to locating his older brother, about 17 years old, who came to visit and care for him.

Later, in the evening of 26 Feb 2026 GMT+7, doctors allowed the injured boy to be discharged from the hospital to recuperate at home. However, when volunteers accompanied him home, they found it was a small rented house belonging to his aunt, with a monthly rent of 500 baht. The house lacked running water, electricity, and any conveniences. The nearly 80-year-old grandmother was bedridden in a pitiable condition. Additionally, a 50-year-old aunt with disabilities affecting her limbs, unable to work, also lived there.

On 27 Feb 2026 GMT+7, reporters learned that while volunteers were visiting the injured boy's family in Moo 6, Soi Sarabua, Tha Sala Subdistrict, Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat, the boy went into shock and lost consciousness. Volunteers urgently took him to Tha Sala Hospital, where doctors provided emergency care until he regained consciousness and his condition stabilized.

The volunteer group sought assistance for this impoverished family from Mr. Ekachai Sunthorn, Deputy Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat, and the Provincial Social Development Office. The office assigned Mr. Surin Arkomwech, head of the Child and Family Shelter of Nakhon Si Thammarat, to work with Mr. Ekachai Sunthorn’s team to inspect and provide aid to the family according to legal procedures.

Investigation revealed the injured boy's family consists of four siblings with the same parents. Their mother passed away 6–7 years ago. Their father remarried and abandoned the four children to fend for themselves. The eldest sister, 19 years old, suffers from diabetes and is homeless in Nakhon Si Thammarat city. The second sibling, 17, lives with their aunt (the mother's sister) in the rented house and sells homegrown vegetables in the city.

The third sibling, 13 years old, is the boy injured in the accident and diagnosed with leukemia. The fourth sibling, about 9–10 years old, is unaccounted for, as the father gave this child to someone else when very young. The family lives in hardship with a bedridden grandmother and a disabled aunt with a leg deformity, renting a house for 500 baht monthly without water, electricity, or conveniences, resulting in severe poverty and distress.

Regarding the 13-year-old boy with leukemia, reporters described him as an incredibly resilient and enduring fighter. He does not attend school and wanders around. He is polite, well-behaved, avoids drugs, and usually stays near Maharaj Hospital. He earns money by buying homegrown vegetables from Hua It market, dividing them into small bundles to sell around Maharaj Hospital and to local households.

At night, he sleeps in corners or under trees around Maharaj Hospital. He is a familiar figure to hospital staff and local residents, who mostly sympathize with him and continue to offer help and support.
