DDPM Warns 62 Provinces to Prepare for Thunderstorms and Strong Winds from 3-6 March

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has warned 62 provinces in the North, Northeast, Central regions, and Bangkok to be vigilant about thunderstorm conditions, strong gusty winds, and hail.

On 1 March 2026, Mr. Theerapat Kashamat, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), announced that the Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command (CDPMC) has been monitoring weather conditions and assessing risk factors. The Meteorological Department has issued its first seasonal storm warning for upper Thailand (effective 3 - 6 March 2026), stating that a high-pressure system or cold air mass from the People's Republic of China is moving to cover the Northeast and the South China Sea. Meanwhile, upper Thailand experiences hot weather combined with westerly wind currents passing through the North and upper Northeast. This will cause seasonal storms in some areas across the North, Northeast, Central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity. The areas under alert for thunderstorms and strong gusty winds from 3 to 6 March 2026 are:

  • All provinces in the North.
  • All provinces in the Northeast.
  • All provinces in the Central region.
  • Bangkok.

The Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command (CDPMC), under the DDPM, has coordinated to notify the 62 provinces in the North, Northeast, Central regions, and Bangkok, as well as regional disaster prevention centers in the risk zones, to remain vigilant and prepare for the hazard situation during this period. They are instructed to closely monitor the situation, weather conditions, and hazard trends, coordinate with local administrative organizations to warn residents in risk areas in advance, and prepare disaster response machinery and operational teams to be stationed in vulnerable areas to respond and assist residents immediately.

The public, especially those in risk zones, are urged to closely follow weather forecasts and official information, strictly adhere to warnings, check that homes and buildings are structurally sound, and avoid staying in open areas under large trees, billboards, or unstable structures to prevent injury from collapse. They should also be cautious of lightning strikes. Farmers are advised to secure trees and provide shelters to protect agricultural crops from damage.

Finally, the public can follow disaster alerts via the "THAI DISASTER ALERT" application. If affected by disasters, they can report incidents and request help through the Line account "DDPM Incident Report 1784" by adding the Line ID @1784DDPM, as well as the 24-hour emergency hotline 1784 for coordination of assistance.
