On 4 Mar 2026, the websiteof the Meteorological Departmentissued Announcement No. 5 regarding the summer storm in upper Thailand (effective until 6 Mar 2026), stating that a summer storm will develop in upper Thailand, beginning in the northeast region. The eastern, central regions including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the northern region will be affected subsequently.
The storm will feature thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, hail in some areas, heavy rain in certain locations, and lightning in some places. This is due to a high-pressure area, or cold air mass from China, moving to cover the northeast and the South China Sea, causing southerly andsoutheasterly windsto carry moisture from the South China Sea over the northeast, east, and upper Gulf of Thailand, while upper Thailand experiences hot weather.
Residents in these areas are advised to beware of dangers from the summer storm by avoiding open spaces, large trees, unstable structures, and billboards. Farmers should reinforce fruit trees and prepare to protect agricultural produce and livestock from potential damage. Also, maintain health during this weather change.
