Check of PTT Oil Depot in Chiang Mai Confirms No Shortage Despite Long Queues

Energy and Commerce departments inspected the PTT oil depot in Chiang Mai, confirming sufficient oil supply and continuous service. They noted some gas stations temporarily ran out due to customers purchasing more than the reserves.

On 4 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Mrs. Saithan Prasongkhamdee, Chiang Mai Energy Officer, along with Mrs. Natthaporn Mahapaiboon, Chiang Mai Commerce Officer, and Mr. Komphet Samleetermsiri, Director of the Northern Weights and Measures Center (Chiang Mai), met with Mr. Saranyu Limpvoramorn, Manager of the Chiang Mai oil depot at PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR), to discuss and monitor oil price and supply following public concerns about unrest in the Eastern region.

The Chiang Mai OR oil depot confirmed that oil quantities remain sufficient with continuous transport. Prices still follow market mechanisms. However, government and Ministry of Energy policies, led by the Prime Minister and Energy Minister, have extended diesel price controls for 15 more days to mitigate public impact. They emphasized that citizens can be confident that both gasoline and diesel supplies are ample without shortages.

The Chiang Mai oil depot manager confirmed that current oil reserves in Chiang Mai sufficiently meet public demand, continuing to serve all customer groups under strict safety standards and legal regulations.

Temporary shortages at some gas stations occurred because customer demand exceeded the stations' reserved supplies. Meanwhile, oil trucks are steadily collecting fuel from the depot, resulting in long truck queues and causing possible delays in deliveries to certain stations.

Additionally, Chiang Mai Energy and Commerce officers, together with the Chiang Mai Weights and Measures Office, monitored oil service situations in Mueang District and found ongoing public access to fuel. Some stations were awaiting fuel deliveries to refill underground tanks. Urgent transport from the depot to stations will continue. The Energy and Commerce offices will keep inspecting gas stations regularly to prevent hoarding and ensure sufficient fuel supply for the public.
