Summer Storm Strikes Roi Et: Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Damage Homes and School

An incident occurred A "summer storm" struck Roi Et Province with "heavy rain and strong winds" damaging residents' homes and a school


A reporter reported that at approximately 17:00 on 5 March 2026, heavy rain and a summer storm with gusty winds struck Phon Thong District, Roi Et Province, causing damage to numerous homes and structures. Local officials inspected the damage and reported to superiors to urgently assist the affected residents.

Initial surveys found at least five houses were affected, including the home of Mr. Apichat, whose roof was damaged by the storm, and Mr. Thongin’s house, which was struck by a fallen betel palm tree. Additionally, Mr. Munoon’s Kok Nong Na area shelter roof was damaged.

Nearby houses were also impacted by the storm, such as those of Mr. Witthaya in Sri Sawang Subdistrict and Mr. Samian in Phon Thong District.

Meanwhile, the summer storm also damaged Saithong Wittaya School in Phon Thong District, with strong winds tearing off the auditorium roof and the connecting walkway.

A Mexican tree, a symbol of the school, was also uprooted. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Local authorities are continuing damage assessments and preparing to assist those affected according to government procedures.

The Meteorological Department warns that several areas in the Northeast remain at risk of summer storms featuring thunderstorms, strong gusts, and possible hail in some locations. Residents are advised to stay cautious by avoiding large trees and unstable structures.
