Meteorological Department Warns Southern Thailand of Increased and Heavy Rain from 10 to 13 March

The Meteorological Department forecasts that from 7 to 10 March, upper Thailand will experience hot weather during the day but scattered thunderstorms can still occur in some areas. Meanwhile, the southern region will have increased rainfall with heavy showers in some locations. Waves in the Gulf of Thailand will be 1-2 meters high.

On 7 March 2026, the Meteorological Department forecasted weather for the next 24 hours that northern Thailand will see a decrease in rain but scattered thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind may still occur in some areas. This is due to a high-pressure system or a cold air mass from China covering the northeast and South China Sea regions, causing southern and southeastern winds to bring moisture from the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand to cover upper Thailand. Although northern Thailand will be hot, residents in these areas are advised to be cautious of thunderstorms and strong gusty winds.

For the southern region, rainfall will increase due to strengthening east and southeast winds covering the Gulf of Thailand, the south, and the Andaman Sea. In the lower Gulf of Thailand, waves will be 1-2 meters high. In areas experiencing thunderstorms, waves will exceed 2 meters. Fishermen in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are advised to avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.

Currently, dust particles in the northern, central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as the eastern region, are at moderate to fairly high levels due to weak to moderate ventilation conditions.

7-day weather forecast

From 7 to 10 March 2026, upper Thailand will experience hot weather during the day but scattered thunderstorms can still occur in some areas due to low-pressure areas caused by heat covering upper Thailand, combined with southeast and southern winds covering these areas.Low-pressure areasdue to heat cover upper Thailand, along with southeast and southern winds covering the region.

From 11 to 13 March 2026, upper Thailand will experience a summer storm characterized by thunderstorms, strong gusts of wind, hail, heavy rain in some areas, and possible lightning. This is because a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China will extend to cover the upper north, northeast, and South China Sea, causing southern and southeastern winds to bring moisture to cover the northeast, central, eastern regions, and the Gulf of Thailand. Meanwhile, upper Thailand will remain hot.

For the southern region from 7 and 10 to 13 March 2026, rainfall will increase with some heavy showers, due to strengthening east and southeast winds covering the Gulf of Thailand, the south, and the Andaman Sea. On 8 and 9 March, rainfall will be less because the east winds covering the Andaman Sea, south, and Gulf of Thailand will weaken. Waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand will be 1-2 meters high, and in areas with thunderstorms, waves will exceed 2 meters.

Precautions: On 11 and 12 March 2026, residents in upper Thailand should be careful of dangers from thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, hail, and lightning by avoiding open areas, large trees, and unstable billboards, as well as avoiding travel through areas experiencing storms during this period. Farmers should reinforce fruit trees and prepare to protect agricultural products and livestock from possible damage, and take care of their health during this changing weather.

Earthquake situation (6-7 March 2026): Earthquakes were detected with magnitudes of 3.7 centered north of the Sumatra Islands, Indonesia; 2.1 centered in Mae Hee subdistrict, Pai district, Mae Hong Son province; 2.6 and 1.9 centered in Myanmar; and 1.9 centered in Laos. None of these affected Thailand.
