Two Men Assault Rider, Leaving Him Unconscious on Street Suspects Surrender, Drug Use Detected

Two men assaulted a rider leaving him unconscious on the street. They have surrendered; police urine tests found drug use, while many riders gathered to await the interrogation results.

At 13:30 on 7 March 2026, Mr. Setthasat, 30, and Mr. Wallop, 38, accompanied by their lawyer, surrendered to police at Chiang Mai City Police Station after assaulting Mr. Weerayut, 41, a rider who was injured beside the road at Mae Hia intersection, Mueang District, Chiang Mai. Earlier that morning, a Muay Thai trainer and good Samaritan helped the victim and recorded the incident on social media, sparking widespread criticism. Under pressure, the two suspects surrendered with their lawyer.

During questioning, Mr. Wallop claimed that in the morning he was riding a motorcycle with his younger brother from the city. After running a red light, two cars came together. He rode between them, and then the rider squeezed past, forcing his motorcycle close to the car on the left.

Later, as he neared a shopping mall, he tried to overtake. He braked, but the rider collided with the rear of his motorcycle. This angered his younger brother, Mr. Setthasat, who got off and punched the rider. His younger brother, smaller in size, also fought the rider. At first, they struggled, and although he tried to break it up, the fighting continued. In anger, he punched the rider once. He admitted that the two men in the video were indeed him and his brother. He apologized sincerely to the rider, saying he acted in anger.

After the interrogation, police took both suspects for urine drug tests, which initially confirmed drug use.

While police questioned the suspects at the Chiang Mai City Police investigation building, many Chiang Mai riders came to the station to follow the case and see the two suspects who assaulted their colleague.

One rider who came said they wanted to ask why the suspects attacked their friend and why it escalated to such violence. The riders demanded justice, saying the law should take its course, but such violence causing someone to lose consciousness on the street was unacceptable.

Police Colonel Prachya Thisla, chief of Chiang Mai City Police Station, said the suspects surrendered with their lawyer and confessed to all charges of jointly assaulting the rider causing injury. Police initially charged them with joint assault causing injury.

Additionally, police conducted urine drug tests on both suspects and proceeded with related charges. They also fined them for riding motorcycles without license plates, handled through the investigation officer as a summary penalty.

The rider is currently resting under medical observation. On Monday, doctors will perform a detailed examination to assess the extent of his injuries, which will significantly impact the case, awaiting forensic results to determine whether the injuries are minor or severe.

After the interrogation, the police chief spoke with the gathered riders, assuring fair treatment for all parties and a straightforward investigation. The rider group was satisfied and dispersed peacefully without any further violence.
