The accident site was a two-lane road (heading toward Phongphet intersection). On the right lane, officers found the deceased, a 36-year-old man named Chaiya Pongket from Sai Noi District, Nonthaburi Province. He was a music teacher (drummer) at KPN Music Academy and drummer for BLACK TIGER band. He wore a dark blue long-sleeve jacket over a blue T-shirt, black slacks, and sneakers. A shoulder bag lay beside him containing his ID card, employee card, drumsticks, and other items. His body lay face down in a pool of blood with severe facial injuries.
Nearby, a blue-black Honda Wave 100 motorcycle with license plate Phokom 951 Bangkok was found overturned. A short distance away stood a red and cream Isuzu city bus, route 70 (Sanam Luang–Prachanivet), license plate 12-0836 Bangkok. Under its left front wheel was the victim’s full-face helmet, crushed under the tire. The bus driver, identified as 24-year-old Sarawut Maneepan, was standing at the scene giving a statement to police.
CCTV footage from a dashboard camera at 09:02 showed the bus traveling in the right lane while the victim’s motorcycle was in the left lane. Near the HomePro entrance, the motorcycle lost control and slipped, falling onto the right lane where the bus subsequently ran over him, causing his death.
Bus driver Sarawut Maneepan stated he was driving from Sanam Luang to the terminal near Prachanivet. At the scene, he saw the victim riding in the left lane while he was in the right. Reviewing his vehicle camera, he saw the motorcycle slip and fall, sliding into his wheel. He tried to swerve but could not avoid the collision. He got out and found the rider had died at the scene. He was very shocked. At the time, he was accompanied by two fare collectors and no passengers were on board. After the incident, he immediately contacted his insurance and emergency responders.
Sanaiyaphon Mukkaew, 38, lead singer of BLACK TIGER and bandmate of the deceased, said the victim was a senior musician and drum teacher. They last met the previous Friday and regularly communicated about work within their musician group. He described the deceased as kind, well-mannered, and neither a drinker nor smoker. At the time of the accident, the victim was reportedly riding his motorcycle to work at The Mall Ngamwongwan. There had been no warning signs or unusual behavior. The deceased had a girlfriend and elderly parents. Upon hearing the news, the bandmate was deeply shocked and did not expect such a tragedy.
