Clashes at Mae Sot Border: Myanmar Soldiers Fight Karen Forces, Bullets Land on Thai Side

Clashes continue at the Mae Sot border, with Myanmar soldiers fighting Karen forces. Bullets have fallen into Thai territory, causing damage at three locations.

At 10:00 a.m. on 10 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reporters stated that fighting between Myanmar’s military and opposition forces persists, resulting in stray bullets entering Thai territory at two points during 8-9 March.

Military personnel from the Ratchamanu Task Force, 2nd Light Weapons Platoon, Infantry Company 1411, deployed forces to investigate 82-millimeter caliber bullets that landed in Thai territory at a cattle pen in Maha Wan Village No. 1, Maha Wan Subdistrict, Mae Sot District, Tak Province, in three locations.

The first site was a parking area belonging to Mrs. Sriphen Duangpeng, 66, from Village No. 3, Phra That Pha Daeng Subdistrict, Mae Sot District. Near the cattle pen in Village No. 9, Mae Kon Ken Village, Maha Wan Subdistrict, damage was found to the roof, which had multiple bullet holes from fragments, and bullets also hit a tractor and a solar panel array.

The next location was at the entrance to the cattle pen in Maha Wan Subdistrict, where a bullet struck the ground, creating a crater 10 centimeters wide and 6 centimeters deep. Fortunately, the bullet did not detonate, and no injuries or deaths occurred.

The third location involved the roof of the house belonging to Mr. Singhchai Jaiya, 52, of Village No. 9, Maha Wan Subdistrict, Mae Sot District. An unidentified caliber bullet from unidentified forces struck the kitchen roof area.

Authorities, including Mr. Kantpong Pipatmontrikul, District Chief of Mae Sot, assigned Mr. Montri Suksart, headman of Maha Wan Subdistrict, along with village chiefs, soldiers from Ratchamanu Infantry Company, Border Patrol Police Company 346 based at Mae Kon Ken, and Mae Sot Police Station officers, Box 406, to prepare for any escalation in fighting between Karen forces and Myanmar soldiers to provide timely assistance to residents.
