On 11 Mar 2026 at 06:00 GMT+7, Chatchat Sitthiphan, Governor of Bangkok, along with Wisanu Subsompon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, and the Drainage Department, visited the site to inspect the reopening of the Khlong Khet bridge on Udomsuk Road in Prawet District. This morning, all four traffic lanes were fully reopened after being closed for major repairs for over four years due to the subsidence of the drainage tunnel and bridge on 26 Feb 2022.
Governor Chatchat stated that this morning he visited the Khlong Khet bridge, which was damaged over four years ago before he became governor when the Bueng Nong Bon drainage tunnel collapsed, causing two lanes of the bridge to become unusable. The repairs took a long time because of complex engineering challenges. Today, the bridge has fully reopened with all four lanes operational, which will help ease traffic on Udomsuk Road.
Deputy Governor Wisanu added that this project involves a drainage tunnel from Bueng Nong Bon to the Chao Phraya River near Pak Khlong Bang O. The tunnel has a large diameter of 5 meters, is about 30 meters deep, and approximately 9.4 kilometers long. The 2022 incident was caused by underground water and sand flowing into the Khlong Khet water intake shaft (S3), leading to the subsidence of bridge piles and damage to the original tunnel structure. The repair involved not only fixing the bridge above but also excavating a new tunnel alignment between the Nong Bon water intake shaft (S2) and the Khlong Khet intake shaft. The tunnel was also raised to enhance the structure’s stability and strength.
Currently, the main structure and bridge construction are 100% complete and fully open with all four lanes in use. Governor Chatchat has instructed related agencies to expedite finishing work on the surrounding sidewalks to ensure they are properly completed.
