
The Department of National Parks has provided a positive update on the condition of "Chief Win" He is now conscious and has been taken off the ventilator after being critically shot in the left rib area, requiring emergency surgery.
The case involved an assailant, a former forestry officer, who shot 31-year-old Varun Jansawang, known as "Chief Win," head of the Salak Phra-Erawan Fire Control Station and assistant head of Erawan National Park. The incident happened by the Kwae Yai River, Village No. 6, Chong Sadao Subdistrict, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi Province, as previously reported.
On 10 March 2026, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation reported that Varun is now conscious and has been taken off the ventilator. He previously underwent urgent surgery after a bullet struck his left ribs, affecting several vital organs including the spleen, stomach, diaphragm, and lungs. Although off the ventilator, medical staff continue close care to monitor for complications and aid his recovery.
