Over 500 Pattani Street Racers Take Over Road for Speed Gambling Crash Kills 3, Many Injured

Over 500 Pattani street racers took over a road to gamble on speed races, resulting in a crash that killed three and injured several others. Local residents are heavily troubled and appeal for prompt action from authorities.

On 11 Mar 2026 GMT+7, residents in Lipa Sa-ngo Subdistrict, Nong Chik District, Bara-Ho Subdistrict, Mueang Pattani District, and nearby areas reported severe disturbance caused by a large group of youths. They gathered with motorcycles modified with loud exhausts to race on the road.

The group, nearly 500 youths, began assembling around midnight, parking motorcycles along both sides of Road 43 in Bara-Ho Subdistrict, Mueang Pattani, over a stretch of 400–500 meters. They started serious racing from about 1 a.m. until 4 a.m.

Observers noted the youths used one lane for vehicle testing and the other for speed racing, causing loud noise all night. Many spectators, mostly under 18, stood by the roadside cheering. Firecrackers were set off periodically, alarming and disturbing nearby residents.

Residents said the area includes young children, elderly people, and bedridden patients who cannot rest properly. Additionally, trucks and cars traveling on the road have to maneuver around the racers constantly, increasing the risk of accidents.

It was also found that these youths regularly gather to race and gamble throughout Ramadan every year. Recently, a crash occurred during such a race, resulting in three deaths and over ten injuries.

However, this recurring problem persists despite police arrests and crackdowns. Residents affected by the issue are demanding that relevant agencies urgently address the matter seriously to prevent further loss of life.
