
A summer storm with strong winds struck Doi Tao district, Chiang Mai province, causing damage to several rafts on Doi Tao Lake. The finial of Wat Phra Borom That Doi Koeng temple was toppled.
On 12 Mar 2026, reporters reported that after a storm and strong gusty winds hit Tha Duea subdistrict, Doi Tao district, Chiang Mai province on the evening of 11 Mar, Mr. Theerapong Duangchan, head of Tha Duea Subdistrict Administrative Organization, revealed that the storm severely damaged rafts on Doi Tao Lake. Initial surveys found five fishing rafts damaged, one tourist raft damaged, and one long-tail boat sunk. A food raft lost its roof but suffered only minor damage. Officials have begun assisting owners in salvaging boats and rafts.
The head of Tha Duea Subdistrict Administrative Organization added that in the same area, the strong winds caused the finial of Wat Phra Borom That Doi Koeng, an ancient temple central to Doi Tao district, to collapse.
