The extreme heat has helped boost sales of aromatic coconuts. In Khon Kaen, sales have surged to over 100 coconuts daily, with some shops nearing 1,000 coconuts sold each day.
On 12 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reporters surveyed over 20 aromatic coconut vendors along roads in Khon Kaen Municipality. The market was lively during the hot season, as prices dropped, prompting sellers to increase stock. Passersby often stopped to buy coconuts to cool down.
Mr. Suradet Buranasri, 54, a roadside aromatic coconut vendor in downtown Khon Kaen Municipality, said that the hot weather has increased sales from under 100 coconuts daily to about 100-120. Most customers buy them to cool off and for perceived health benefits. He sources his coconuts from Khon Kaen's Rot Fai Market at about 17 baht each.
Mr. Suradet added that despite news of price fluctuations for aromatic coconuts, he hasn't been significantly affected as he continues to buy at stable prices around 16-19 baht per coconut, which is normal market variation. Most coconuts he sells come from Ratchaburi province.
However, he acknowledged an increase in mobile vendors selling aromatic coconuts in Khon Kaen, some offering four coconuts for 50 baht, possibly lower-quality or culls from plantations.
At the Rot Fai Market in Khon Kaen Municipality, the aromatic coconut trade is equally brisk, with more customers buying coconuts to consume amid the hot weather.
Mr. Krisana Imkaew, 35, owner of an aromatic coconut juice shop at Rot Fai Market, said price fluctuations have little impact on his business since prices vary daily. He confirmed that hot weather has boosted sales by over 20%, currently selling between 500 and 1,000 coconuts daily, depending on the weather.
