Curry Rice Shop in Uthai Thani Hesitant to Raise Prices Despite Rising Costs of Ingredients and Packaging

A curry rice shop in Uthai Thani admits it is reluctant to raise prices fearing customers will leave, even though costs have increased due to the price of curry bags and cooking ingredients. The shop insists the quality remains unchanged despite selling for 10 baht.

On 13 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reporters surveyed the business atmosphere in the Nong Chang Municipality area, Nong Chang District, Uthai Thani Province, after noting that packaging costs for curry foods, especially plastic bags and rubber bands, have recently risen. This increase has forced many vendors to bear higher expenses.

Surveying curry rice shops in the area revealed some have started to feel the impact of rising costs, particularly those selling at low prices who use many plastic bags and rubber bands daily. One such shop sells curry rice for 10 baht per bag and is popular with locals, attracting steady customers due to its affordable price, tasty flavor, and freshly cooked food. This offers residents an accessible meal option amid rising living costs in various areas.

Ms. Suthiraporn Cherdsungnoen, owner of the 10-baht-per-bag curry rice shop, disclosed that plastic bag prices have indeed risen by about 5 baht per pack, while rubber band prices remain unchanged. Additionally, some raw materials and equipment costs are trending upward, but overall, the shop has not been significantly affected yet.

Nevertheless, despite some cost increases, the shop strives to keep food prices at 10 baht per bag to help reduce expenses for local customers. They worry that raising prices might drive away regular patrons or supporters, especially laborers and ordinary people seeking affordable daily meals. The owner affirms a commitment to maintaining food quality and portion sizes to ensure customers continue to receive good value.
