Bangkok Promotes Equal Career Opportunities: Opens 20 Assistant Teacher Positions for People with Disabilities

"Bangkok Metropolitan Administration" (BMA) opens opportunities "people with disabilities" to become teachers, promoting equal career opportunities by selecting 20 assistant teachers.

On 14 Mar 2026, Mr. Panumas Sukhamporn, advisor to the Governor of Bangkok, Ms. Aranya Pornchaiya, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, and Ms. Pismay Ruangsilp, Director of the Education Bureau, visited the interview process for selecting people with disabilities to be appointed as assistant teachers in Bangkok’s education sector. The selection, case 1/2026, took place at the Rattanakosin Room, Bangkok City Hall (Sao Chingcha), Phra Nakhon district.

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration offers people with disabilities the chance to serve as teachers and education personnel, following principles of equality and access to public employment. This selection involved 34 candidates with three types of disabilities: visual impairment, hearing or communication impairment, and physical or mobility impairment. They applied for 7 subject groups: Science, Thai Language, Primary Education, Educational Technology, Social Studies, Computer, and Arts–Drawing, competing for 20 assistant teacher positions.

Suitability for the position and profession was evaluated through interviews considering personal background and education, personality, quick thinking, attitude, and teaching ideology to ensure quality personnel prepared to perform educational duties.

During the visit, the Governor’s advisor, Deputy Permanent Secretary, and Education Bureau Director inspected the exam venue and encouraged the committee, staff, and candidates to ensure the process was orderly, transparent, and fair according to set criteria.

Bangkok has a policy promoting employment of people with disabilities under the Act on the Promotion and Development of the Quality of Life of Persons with Disabilities B.E. 2550 (2007), providing work opportunities based on ability and potential. Currently, BMA employs over 400 people with disabilities across various departments, including civil servants, employees, and volunteers, making it one of the public agencies with the highest employment rate of people with disabilities in the country.

Bangkok remains committed to developing policies on equality and inclusive employment, ensuring no one is left behind, providing people with disabilities the chance to use their potential in careers and contribute to the development of education in Bangkok.
