Investigation Underway into Small Plane Crash in Saraburi Province Pilot Seriously Injured and Sent to Hospital

An update on the small plane crash in Phra Phutthabat District, Saraburi Province: The pilot has been sent to Saraburi Hospital, while police are rushing to determine the cause of the accident.

On the morning of 16 March 2026, reporters visited the crash site where the injured pilot remained trapped in the aircraft. Rescue teams from Phra Phutthabat Hospital urgently transported him to the hospital for treatment of a hip injury, suspected to involve a fracture. The pilot, Mr. Pongsak, aged 75, was unable to move due to the impact from the crash.

At the scene, the wreckage of the small plane (a light aircraft) was found scattered across an open area. The left wing was broken off and lodged at the base of a large tamarind tree. A red Honda PCX motorcycle, registered in Lopburi, was also damaged nearby. Slightly further away, a spirit shrine in front of a local home was damaged, along with a nearby shed.

Initial findings indicate that the small plane took off from Tantanawan Airport, about two kilometers from the crash site, for a training flight. At the time of the accident, the pilot was attempting to land at the airport but the plane lost control before reaching the runway. It descended, struck a high-voltage power line, then slid into a large tamarind tree before crashing to the ground, breaking apart and injuring the pilot.

Regarding the pilot, Mr. Pongsak, he was taken for hip treatment, where a fracture is suspected. Doctors are providing initial care. Overall, his condition is stable and not life-threatening. Meanwhile, authorities have collected and gathered the scattered wreckage to be transported back to the airport nearly two kilometers away, pending expert investigation into the cause of the crash.

Mr. Noi Rakbun, 40, a disaster prevention and mitigation officer from Than Kasem Subdistrict Municipality, said that in the morning the Phra Phutthabat District Chief and local officials inspected the crash area and then proceeded to visit Tantanawan Airport about two kilometers away. At 11:00 a.m., Saraburi Provincial Forensic Department and Saraburi Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office arrived to examine and collect evidence at the scene. The pilot, Mr. Pongsak, 75, remains in serious condition and has been transferred from Phra Phutthabat Hospital to Saraburi Hospital for further treatment.

Nine-year-old Sutthinai, known as Boom, the homeowner’s grandson, who suffered a head injury at the back of his head, told reporters he was hit by flying debris. He saw a fast-moving yellow light from the plane, followed by a blast of dust and flying stones and dirt. He managed to dodge the first time but was hit by debris on the second, causing a head wound. At the time, he was sitting outside eating instant noodles.

At 11:00 a.m., the Saraburi Provincial Forensic Department and the Saraburi Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office arrived at the crash site to photograph and collect evidence, as well as interview witnesses at the scene.

Colonel Veerawut Damsuwan, Chief of Phra Phutthabat Police Station, stated that he joined officials at the crash site today. They coordinated with the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Training Institute (Investigation Division) to conduct further investigations. The crash site has been preserved pending examination. The injured pilot was transferred from Phra Phutthabat Hospital to Saraburi Hospital and is now in stable condition. Property damage has been recorded by police from Phra Phutthabat Police Station. The exact cause of the crash will be determined after detailed investigation by relevant authorities.
