Chiang Mai Announces Energy-Saving Measures, Cancels Overseas Study Tours, Promotes Stair Use

Chiang Mai province has announced energy measures requesting cooperation to use energy economically and only when necessary, canceling overseas study tours, and promoting walking up and down stairs instead of using elevators.

Following the Cabinet resolution on 10 March 2026, Mr. Ratthaphon Naradisorn, Governor of Chiang Mai, has requested cooperation from all sectors to use energy sparingly and only when necessary to address the energy situation, with three main guidelines as follows.

1. Energy conservation in offices

  • Air conditioners: Set temperature at 26-27 degrees Celsius, keep doors and windows closed tightly, and turn off immediately after work hours.
  • Lighting: Turn off lights during lunch breaks and in unused areas.
  • Electronic devices: Set computers to standby mode and turn off screens during lunch breaks.
  • Reduce paper use: Emphasize electronic documents.
  • Elevators: Promote walking up and down stairs instead of using elevators.

2. Adjust work and meeting formats

  • Consider allowing work from home as appropriate (except for public service units).
  • Shift meetings to electronic media (online meetings).

3. Travel for study tours

  • Cancel overseas study trips (except for essential missions).
  • Change to domestic study tours or activities and meetings via electronic media.

Chiang Mai province requests cooperation from all sectors to consider implementing energy-saving measures appropriately to ensure overall energy management is effective.
