A 61-year-old farmer was in tears after burglars broke into his home, lifted a safe weighing over 60 kilograms, threw it from the upper floor to the lower floor, then broke it open to steal valuables he had collected his entire life, taking more than 17 baht of gold jewelry and 130,000 baht in cash before fleeing.
On 17 March 2026, reporters visited the house at the scene in Village No. 3, Marawichai Subdistrict, Sena District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, where they met the victim, Noppadon Mongkolthai, 61. He showed them the upper-floor bedroom where the back door had been pried open and there were long marks on the floor from dragging the safe.
Initial investigation suggests the suspects dragged the safe out of the room before lifting and throwing it to the lower floor to break it open and take the valuables inside. The safe was later found discarded beside a mango tree inside the house.
The victim recounted that the incident happened on 13 March while he and his family attended a nearby ordination ceremony. When they returned around 10 p.m., they noticed something was wrong. Upon checking, they were shocked to find the safe holding their gold and money was missing.
Stolen items included several gold jewelry pieces: two 5-baht gold necklaces, one 4-baht gold necklace, one 2-baht gold necklace, plus rings, earrings, gold pendants, and amulet frames weighing about 1 baht, totaling approximately 17 baht of gold. In addition, 130,000 baht in cash was taken—assets the victim had painstakingly saved over a lifetime.
Noppadon said with a shaky voice that he began collecting gold when the price was 4,500 baht per baht, hoping to use it for his later years. He never expected it all to be stolen at once. He admitted that the safe he thought was secure actually made it easier for thieves to take all his valuables.
He also believes there were at least two burglars because the safe weighed over 60 kilograms and would have required multiple people to carry it out of the bedroom and throw it down to the lower floor. Furthermore, he suspects the thieves were familiar with the household's movements, committing the crime while no one was home.
The victim has filed a report at Marawichai Police Station, hoping that the authorities will quickly track down the criminals, prosecute them, and recover his stolen property.
