The Thai military has revealed images showing progress on the "security fence" along the Thai-Cambodian border pilot project in Chanthaburi. They have cleared landmines and constructed a road alongside the fence, and are preparing to build a permanent wall in April, aiming to finish within 45 days.
On 17 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reports stated that the Thai military unveiled images of progress on the security fence construction along the Thai-Cambodian border. The pilot area is in Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province, where a road is being built alongside the border fence, covering boundary markers 52 to 54, a total distance of approximately 1,310 meters, to enhance national security alongside maintaining safety and peace in the border area.
Currently, the National Mine Action Center has completed surveying and clearing landmines in the area, making it safe and ready for the next development phase.
Regarding site preparation, the Military Development Command has deployed personnel to clear the area and complete construction of the road alongside the fence line to support the upcoming construction of the fence and permanent structures.
The project is expected to begin building the permanent wall fence in early April 2026, with a target completion time of 45 days.
Additional information indicates that the site preparation for the security fence in Chanthaburi, starting from Thepnimit Subdistrict, Pong Nam Ron District, between boundary markers 52 and 54, has already included landmine clearance. Concurrently, a road parallel to the border has been cut through up to kilometer marker 54. "Cambodia has also constructed a parallel road alongside the Thai side. Wherever Thailand builds, Cambodia builds to the same extent, with no overlap," an official said.
Temporary boundary markers are placed in the center between the two countries’ roads. The planned wall will be constructed about 3 meters from the markers, maintaining a consistent line, and Cambodia’s road is similarly located about 3 meters inside their boundary markers.
