A kind-hearted vendor in Buriram province continues to sell lunchboxes for 10 baht near a school despite rising ingredient costs, hoping to ease the burden on parents. She said, “Profit may be lower, but I want to help everyone get through this together.”
On 19 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reporters noted that despite ongoing price increases in consumer goods—especially pork rising by 10 baht per kilogram and eggs increasing by 5 baht per tray, along with packaging materials and rubber bands—the lunchbox vendor outside Buriram Kindergarten School in Buriram City Municipality remains committed to selling at the same price to assist students and parents during tight economic times.
At the “Srisomorn Lunchbox” shop in front of Buriram Kindergarten School, lunchboxes are still sold at only 10 baht each, with a variety of menus such as stir-fried basil, curry paste stir-fry, and chicken rice. Menus with fried eggs are priced at 20 baht, an affordable rate for students.
Miss Tum Maneewan, 66, the shop owner, revealed she has been selling lunchboxes for over 30 years and has maintained this price throughout, despite steadily increasing costs for ingredients, particularly pork and eggs. She insists on not raising prices out of compassion for students and parents who face financial burdens.
“The profit may be less, but I want to help support each other, show empathy, and reduce the expense burden on parents, especially as the school holidays approach,” Miss Tum said.
The owner also expressed hope that the government will promptly find ways to assist and control consumer product prices during the school break, noting that oil prices remain a key cost factor impacting overall product prices.
