Oil Tanker Truck Overturns, Diesel Leaks, Driver Injured and Admits Falling Asleep Due to Nonstop Deliveries

An oil tanker truck overturned in Nakhon Ratchasima, causing diesel fuel to leak. Three people, including the driver and his family, were injured. The driver admitted he fell asleep at the wheel after making nonstop delivery rounds without rest.

At 07:53 on 23 March 2026, the Ban Som Highway Police, Division 1, Unit 6, Non Sung District, Nakhon Ratchasima, received a report of an accident involving an oil tanker carrying 9,000 liters of diesel fuel that overturned on Mittraphap Road heading toward Khon Kaen, near kilometers 207-208 before Ban Wat traffic light intersection in Thepalai Subdistrict, Kong District, Nakhon Ratchasima. Three people were injured. Authorities coordinated with relevant agencies and rushed to the scene.

At the scene, the overturned diesel tanker truck bearing Ratchaburi license plates was leaking diesel fuel. Ban Som Highway Police and Huk 31 Rescue Unit from Kong District closed both directions of Mittraphap Road to prevent sparks and unforeseen dangers. The Thepalai Municipality fire truck sprayed water and foam to suppress hazards and quickly sealed the tank’s leak. It took over an hour to bring the situation under control.

Police investigation revealed the truck was carrying diesel from a Saraburi fuel depot to deliver to a gas station in Udon Thani. At the accident site, the driver fell asleep due to fatigue from multiple nonstop delivery runs. This caused the vehicle to lose control, overturn into the road median, and collide with a tree, breaking one tree and one streetlight pole. The truck lay on its side on Mittraphap Road with diesel leaking. Three injured were the driver’s wife, daughter, and granddaughter. They were taken to Kong Hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima. The driver was injured but declined hospital treatment.
