Unbelievable Clarity in Chiang Mai: Clear Views of the Sky and Doi Suthep During the Dust Season

Chiang Mai residents can hardly believe their eyes seeingthe sky and Doi Suthep clearly. The air is bright and clear, free of PM2.5 dust, with excellent air quality during the dust season.

Reporters describe the weather conditions in Chiang Mai as exceptionally good, unprecedented for this season. The sky above Chiang Mai city is clear and free of haze, allowing an unobstructed view of Doi Suthep from all angles. The Pollution Control Department's website reported the PM2.5 level at 12:00 today (23 Mar 2026) in Suthep subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Mai district, at 15 micrograms per cubic meter.

Such clear, dust-free air is unexpected for Chiang Mai residents, as in recent years, late March to April usually brings severe PM2.5 pollution, ranking the city among the world's most polluted. The scenery is often obscured by a gray haze, severely affecting public health.

Air quality index (AQI) checks via various apps show green levels across the province, marking the best statistics in years. This improvement results from strict provincial burning control measures, combined with winds and thunderstorms in the past week that helped wash away dust and increase forest moisture.

Nevertheless, Chiang Mai Governor Ratthaphon Naradisorn continues to urge all areas to rigorously apply every measure to prevent forest fires throughout the burning season, expected to end in late May. He also promotes the "See Early, Reach Early, Extinguish Early" approach to prevent forest fires from spreading widely.
