Police Officer Falls Asleep Driving Pickup, Crashes into Worker Transport Van, Injuring 11

A police officer finishing his shift fell asleep at the wheel, causing his pickup truck to crash into the rear of a worker transport van on Mittraphap Road. The collision involved four vehicles and resulted in a total of 11 injuries.

At 17:15 on 23 March 2026, Lieutenant Printr Yaichantuek, deputy investigation officer at Klang Dong Police Station, Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, received a report from the Sima Mongkhon Municipality radio center about a multi-vehicle collision with several injured people at the U-turn point near Stone Club Company, Mittraphap Road km 49-50, Ban Pang Chaeng, Klang Dong Subdistrict. He informed his superiors and coordinated with rescue teams from Sima Mongkhon Municipality, Klang Dong Municipality, Nong Nam Daeng Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Sawang Vichcha Thammasathan Foundation, and Pak Chong Nana Hospital to assist at the scene.

They found injured workers from a company inside a white Toyota pickup truck used as a shuttle van, registered in Nakhon Ratchasima, including both men and women, totaling eight people, plus the driver, Mr. Chalerm, age 58. Most suffered head wounds and various bodily injuries. The front of the pickup was crushed from hitting the rear of a bronze Toyota Commuter van, also registered in Nakhon Ratchasima and owned by the same company, which had four occupants (driver and passengers) who sustained minor injuries.

The initial crash involved a bronze Toyota Revo pickup truck registered in Saraburi, which had severe front-end damage and was found with the driver, Police Lieutenant Saknarint from Klang Dong Police Station, who also suffered a head wound. Rescue workers had to use hydraulic cutters to free him from the wreckage.

A fourth vehicle, another pickup truck driven by Mr. Chinket, age 34, traveling from Wing 1 Nakhon Ratchasima toward Bangkok, was following Lieutenant Saknarint's Toyota Revo. At the accident site, a left-hand curve, his vehicle suddenly veered off course to the right and crashed into the rear of the worker shuttle pickup, causing its rear to spin onto the road. Following closely, he was unable to brake in time and collided with the left side of the pickup, damaging his own vehicle.

Lieutenant Saknarint told rescue workers that after finishing duty at Klang Dong Police Station, he drove to Pak Chong market to buy some items.

On the way back, he fell asleep at the wheel, veered off the road, and crashed into the rear of the worker shuttle pickup, causing injuries to 11 people. Investigators will continue questioning to take appropriate legal action.
