Following a case where a popular social media page revealed the distress of a furniture factory owner in Kosamphi Nakhon District, Kamphaeng Phet Province, who was allegedly forced to pay a protection fee claimed to support the boss's fuel costs, causing frustration among all shops, many of which felt suppressed and unable to speak out, as previously reported.
The latest update, on 24 March 2026, a reporter visited the furniture store of Aunt Jaew (pseudonym), the person who disclosed the information. She is currently unwilling to provide details due to stress and wishes the matter to end. Therefore, her daughter was asked to share information with the reporter instead.
Mrs. A (pseudonym), the daughter, said Aunt Jaew is currently very stressed with high blood pressure due to recent events, after being summoned to clarify the matter at Kosamphi Nakhon District office along with representatives from the furniture store group. Following discussions, a refund of 4,000 baht was made to the furniture business operators, as it was a misunderstanding regarding the collection of money. It remains unclear whether the amount was for donations or participation in other activities.
Meanwhile, a leaked chat from a Line group of furniture store members included a message stating, “Dear furniture members, if anyone has not contributed yet, please help so we can be united. This will allow us to work without suspicion, whether large or small factories. It is not just for big factories to settle. When the time is critical, you can’t say you weren’t informed. We must help protect ourselves. Whatever can be settled, please handle it properly.”
There were also sticker exchanges in the group, including messages like “Yes, how much do we have to pay?” and “Pay 4,000 baht, it’s a separate donation.”
Initially, the reporter contacted relevant agencies at the district and provincial levels concerning the matter. They stated they need to verify the facts before making any public disclosure.
The latest development: The Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Administration Office issued a public statement saying that following reports on social media about claims that “the furniture factory owner was forced to pay protection fees, allegedly collected to help with the boss’s fuel costs” in Kosamphi Nakhon District, Kamphaeng Phet Province,
Kamphaeng Phet Province has taken the following actions:
1. Instructed the Kosamphi Nakhon District Chief to clarify the facts regarding the case.
2. Appointed a committee to investigate the facts of the case.
3. Reported preliminary information to the Department of Provincial Administration and the Ministry of Interior.
