Monk Arrested for Forging Ordination Certificate to Evade Arrest in Fatal Assault Case

Police raided and arrested a middle-aged man from Udon Thani dressed in monk robes who had forged a monk ordination certificate to evade an arrest warrant in a case involving the fatal assault of another person. He admitted that after the incident, he fled through several areas before deciding to ordain as a monk.

At 13:30 on 25 Mar 2016, Pol. Col. Phiphat Phimklom, chief of Waluewan Police Station, along with Pol. Lt. Col. Suwatchai Sriwicha, deputy chief of investigations, Pol. Lt. Col. Prinya Raksat, investigation officer, and investigators from Waluewan Police Station executed Khon Kaen Provincial Court warrant no. J.275/2559 dated 14 Sep 2016 to arrest Mr. Sombat, 56, from Na Dee Subdistrict, Nong Saeng District, Udon Thani Province. He was arrested at Sawang Nonsuk Temple, Ban Kam Pa Ko, Village No. 3, Non Sombun Subdistrict, Khao Suan Kwang District, Khon Kaen Province, on charges of assault causing bodily and mental harm.

In 2016, Mr. Sombat committed an assault that resulted in the victim's death and subsequently fled from the law. Police gathered evidence and secured an arrest warrant since 2016. They later learned that while on the run, Mr. Sombat had ordained as a monk in Khao Suan Kwang District, Khon Kaen Province. Police tracked him down and arrested him at the temple, presenting the arrest warrant.

During preliminary questioning, Mr. Sombat confessed to having assaulted and killed the victim in Khon Kaen Province. Initially, he fled through various locations, but later sought a way to avoid further escape by forging a monk ordination certificate, despite never having been ordained before.

He then proceeded to ordain at the temple in question and remained there. The arresting officers took him to Waluewan Police Station for formal legal proceedings.
