Motorcycle Taxi Drivers Complain About Expensive Fuel, Plan to Request Fare Increase, Plead for Sympathy for Daily Wage Earners

Motorcycle taxi drivers complain "Expensive fuel" They plan to discuss raising fares and appeal to the government for sympathy toward daily wage earners.

On 26 March 2026, reporters visited the Koh Loi Pier area in Si Racha District, Chonburi Province, where they found a group of local motorcycle taxi drivers. They asked about the recent 6 baht per liter fuel price increase and its impact on motorcycle taxi drivers. All responded unanimously that they must raise fares due to the higher fuel costs. The drivers stressed they would not exploit the situation by charging unreasonably high fares, but they might increase fares by 5-10 baht per trip to cope with current conditions.

This afternoon, the situation at gas stations in Si Racha was relatively quiet. Many locals had filled up their tanks overnight, leading to normal conditions in the morning. Fuel supplies were generally adequate except for diesel, which remained scarce until the next scheduled delivery time set by the stations.

Mr. Pajon Poonsri, 57, a motorcycle taxi driver, said that fuel prices have increased to 40 baht per liter. He wants to raise taxi fares, noting that not only fuel but also living costs like pork, mushrooms, duck, and chicken have gone up in price.

Mr. Patipol Boonsai, a motorcycle taxi driver from Koh Loi, Si Racha, said that with the significant fuel price hike, he must also raise passenger fares. If fares stay the same, it would be impossible to continue operating because of the fuel cost increase. He noted that prices for everything have risen, not just fuel. He urged government agencies to show compassion for daily wage earners.
