"The State Railway of Thailand" is preparing to add a total of 6 special additional trains (22 trips) to support public travel during the Songkran Festival in 2026.
Mr. Anan Phonnimdaeng, Deputy Governor of the State Railway of Thailand, acting Governor, revealed that the Ministry of Transport has instructed SRT to be fully prepared in both passenger convenience and safety to accommodate travelers returning home and tourists during the 2026 Songkran Festival. The goal is to sufficiently serve all passengers without anyone being left behind. Ticket sales data show that passengers have booked full seats in all classes on every train, reflecting a continuous increase in demand for services.
Accordingly, SRT has arranged to add 3 special additional trains (11 trips) on the northern, northeastern, and southern routes on 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, and 16 April 2026, and 3 return trains (11 trips) on 11, 13, 14, 15, and 17 April 2026, totaling 6 trains (22 trips). This will help accommodate additional passengers alongside adding extra carriages to regular trains. This approach helps manage the energy crisis while still meeting public travel demand.
Mr. Anan confirmed that SRT has planned and managed energy use efficiently, alongside being fully prepared for train operations, to ensure sufficient, convenient, and safe travel for the public throughout Songkran.
