Easing stress amid rising fuel prices. "Chiang Rai Municipality" organizes "electric coaches" offering free rides to the public daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On 27 March 2026, reporters reported that Chiang Rai city has arranged free shuttle services during the period of fuel scarcity and high prices. At Chiang Rai provincial bus terminal, a free electric coach service operates daily from 08:00 to 17:00, departing every hour. The route starts from Chiang Rai Bus Terminal 1, circling around the city passing important locations such as King Mengrai the Great Monument, Chiang Rai Vocational College, Tung and Khom Park, the old provincial hall, Overbrook Hospital, Chiang Rai Municipality office, Samakkhi Witthayakhom School, Technical College, municipal fresh market, and the clock tower.
Inside the electric coach, air conditioning provides comfortable seating, and handrails are available for standing passengers. Riders can also learn about Chiang Rai’s important landmarks. This service meets the needs of the era of scarce and expensive fuel, allowing passengers to enjoy cool air conditioning and reduce stress during this crisis.
Mayor Wanchai Chongsuthanamani of Chiang Rai Municipality said that given the current economic situation caused by the war and the difficulty and high cost of obtaining fuel, the municipality recognized the importance of supporting city travelers. Therefore, it deployed three electric coaches to provide free service to the public. The municipality planned routes covering important places frequently visited by residents, crowded areas, and tourist spots, with the coaches running throughout the day.
In this crisis, the service offers encouragement to citizens stressed by travel, providing comfort and helping reduce daily expenses. It will also enhance Chiang Rai’s reputation as a tourist city by providing additional convenience for locals and visitors alike.
