Egg prices have risen again, but vendors remain reluctant to raise retail prices, fearing they will lose customers and be unable to bear long-term cost increases.
On 28 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that after the egg farmers' cooperative network announced a farm-gate price increase of 0.20 baht per egg, or 6 baht per tray, effective today, egg production costs have steadily risen.
A survey at Bo Kai Fresh Market in Pak Nam Pho subdistrict, Mueang district, Nakhon Sawan province, found that most vendors are keeping retail prices at previous levels despite increased costs.
Mrs. Thian Immak, an egg vendor at the market, said that egg production costs have already increased twice, but this time she still does not dare raise retail prices, fearing it will affect customers' purchasing power and cause them to buy less. "If I raise prices to match costs, I’m afraid customers will disappear. So for now, I’m keeping prices the same, relying on higher sales volume, though profits are smaller."
Today, size 0 eggs are sold at 135 baht per tray, size 1 at 125 baht, size 2 at 120 baht, size 3 at 115 baht, and size 4 at 110 baht per tray, with average profits of only 2 to 5 baht per tray.
However, Mrs. Thian admitted that if costs continue to rise, she may have to consider raising retail prices in the future, as she cannot sustain the cost burden long-term.
