Heat Index Surges to Dangerous Levels Starting April 1

Bangkok warns that the heat index on 1 April has surged to a “dangerous” level, impacting health. People are advised to watch for symptoms, and those in at-risk groups should promptly see a doctor if abnormalities occur.

On 1 April 2026, reporters noted that Bangkok issued a warning about the heat index today, stating it is at a “dangerous” level between 42.0 and 51.9 degrees Celsius. The public should monitor their own symptoms, and at-risk individuals should seek medical care immediately if they experience any unusual symptoms.

Health impacts from heat exposure occur when the body is subjected to air temperatures higher than it can tolerate, potentially causing both direct and indirect effects such as fatigue, dizziness, rash, redness and swelling, cramps, and heatstroke.

The heat index refers to the temperature perceived by the body at that moment, depending on both air temperature and relative humidity. It is more effective at indicating the risk of heat-related health effects than simply using the maximum air temperature.
