Yala Raises Security Measures to Highest Level Amid Signs of Potential Unrest

Yala security forces have raised their security measures to the highest level after detecting activity by violent groups likely preparing to cause unrest in urban and economic areas. The state of emergency has also been extended to cover 18 districts across three southern border provinces.

On 2 Apr 2026 GMT+7, reporters learned that Yala security units have upgraded security to the highest level and ordered all units to increase vigilance in risk areas after detecting movements by violent groups likely planning to create disturbances in urban and economic zones.

Officials have intensified inspections of individuals, vehicles, and suspicious objects, especially cars and motorcycles that might be used to assemble car bombs or pipe bombs, aiming to prevent incidents in key community areas.

Meanwhile, security intelligence has alerted all units to heighten caution after noticing changes in attack methods by hostile groups, focusing on improvised explosive devices targeting officials' vehicles during patrols, small dispersed bombings in public places such as gas stations, convenience stores, and public infrastructure, as well as assaults on operational bases and checkpoints in high-risk areas.

There is also a risk of symbolic attacks designed to lure officers into investigations before detonating secondary bombs, along with ambushes targeting personnel during their leave as they return to their hometowns.

On the policy front, the Emergency Situation Administration Committee (ESA Committee) approved extending the enforcement of the Emergency Decree of 2005 for the 84th time, covering 18 districts in the southern border provinces: five districts in Pattani, three in Yala, and ten in Narathiwat, notably including Su-ngai Kolok District, which has been newly designated as a severe emergency zone.

This extension will be effective from 20 Apr 2026 to 19 Jul 2026, allowing authorities to continue operations effectively and maintain strong order and security in the area.

Authorities have urged local residents to promptly report any suspicious persons or objects to security agencies to help prevent violent incidents and ensure lasting community safety.
