Surin – Chong Chom Customs continues to intensify pressure on oil control, partnering with Surin Excise Office to deploy 10 patrol vehicles and over 30 officers to strictly monitor the Lower Northeastern region, ensuring no stockpiling, illegal exports, or re-importation, following government policy.
On 2 Apr 2026 GMT+7, a reporter reported that at 23:20 last night at Chong Chom Customs checkpoint in Dan Subdistrict, Kabchoeng District, Surin Province, Mr. Prasit Deejongjaroen, Chief of Chong Chom Customs, together with Ms. Natthiya Meesungnoen from Surin Excise Office, deployed 10 patrol vehicles and over 30 officers to patrol and randomly inspect oil transport trucks traveling on Highway 24, both northbound to Upper Northeastern and southbound to Lower Northeastern regions, as well as at various fuel service stations, to deter illegal smuggling and stockpiling of oil in their jurisdiction.
Mr. Prasit Deejongjaroen, Chief of Chong Chom Customs, stated that Chong Chom Customs is responsible for three provinces in Lower Northeastern Thailand: Surin, Buriram, and Nakhon Ratchasima. The area borders Cambodia and serves as a main route to Upper Northeastern Thailand, which borders Laos. They have increased vigilance and taken full measures to prevent illegal oil exports. Chong Chom Customs has integrated efforts with Surin Excise Office by deploying patrol units with vehicles to continuously monitor and deter illegal activities along Highway 24 in both directions and at fuel stations in various locations.
Checks with transport drivers revealed that operations continue normally. On the northbound route to Upper Northeastern, inspections of documents and seals found no irregularities or deviations from the route. On the southbound route to Lower Northeastern, trucks delivered the full allocated oil quantities. During random inspections of fuel stations, some pumps that previously operated 24 hours closed by 22:00 following the oil price hike announcement, while others continued serving customers with sufficient supplies of all fuel types until morning. Authorities have ordered strict vigilance and monitoring to ensure public confidence regarding oil availability.
“I want to assure residents in the Lower Northeastern region that recently, the Customs Department Director-General has ordered full strictness. Tonight, Chong Chom Customs and Surin Excise Office have jointly deployed 10 patrol vehicles and over 30 officers to intensively patrol main and secondary roads to pressure and prevent stockpiling, illegal exports, or partial exports followed by re-importation for domestic sale, in line with government policy,” Mr. Prasit concluded.
