After the accident, Police Lieutenant Boonnithi Kernkam, Deputy Inspector of Bangpakong Police Station in Chachoengsao Province, along with Chachoengsao Rescue units and Bangpakong Hospital emergency staff, responded to a multi-vehicle crash at km 37 inbound to Chonburi on Burapha Withi Expressway, Village 5, Bang Samak Subdistrict, Bangpakong District. They found a white Isuzu 22-wheel trailer truck from Songkhla, driven by 27-year-old Kiattisak, had crashed into a white Isuzu 4-wheel truck (license plate Phor Thor 2535, Nakhon Pathom), driven by 55-year-old Chalee, smashing it into scrap metal scattered across the road. Chalee was thrown from the truck and lay seriously injured outside the vehicle.
The trailer truck also hit two employee shuttle vans and three cars, blocking the road. Sixteen people were injured in total. Kiattisak was trapped inside the truck and rescuers worked urgently to free him. After first aid, 14 injured were taken to Chularat 11 Hospital and 2 to Bangpakong Hospital.
The accident blocked all lanes on the expressway. Officials took nearly an hour to clear the scene. Initial eyewitnesses said the vehicles ahead slowed due to heavy traffic when the 22-wheel trailer truck, traveling at speed, clipped the 4-wheel truck and lost control of the brakes, crashing into all vehicles in front and causing multiple injuries.
Police will continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
