A fire broke out inside a condominium in downtown Korat, causing residents to flee in panic. A 23-year-old woman described the frightening moment when she was charging a newly bought power bank; while holding it, sparks and smoke suddenly burst out, prompting her to quickly run out of the room.
At approximately 01:00 on 8 Apr 2026 GMT+7, police from Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima Station and rescue workers from Metta Thammasathan Nakhon Ratchasima received reports of a fire inside a condominium in Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. They dispatched firefighting teams, rescue volunteers, equipment, and fire trucks to the scene, coordinating with Nakhon Ratchasima Municipality to request additional rescue and firefighting support. The fire originated from a unit on the 6th floor of the condominium.
With the fire spreading inside the unit, rescue personnel urgently evacuated residents via emergency stairwells amidst the occupants' panic, activating alarm signals before controlling the blaze. The fire was contained within an hour, and there are no initial reports of injuries.
Upon inquiry, the female tenant, age 23 (name withheld), told officials she was living alone. Before the incident, she had been charging a newly purchased power bank inside her unit. While holding the device, sparks and smoke suddenly erupted, frightening her into running out to seek help. Shortly afterward, flames rapidly engulfed the room, preventing her from salvaging any belongings, including her mobile phone. An iPad and several other possessions in the unit were damaged.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was likely caused by a malfunction in the power bank, leading to the battery exploding while charging. Authorities will conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause.
