Diesel prices exceeding 50 baht per liter have impacted fishermen in Trat Province, causing them to fish every other day. Additionally, extreme heat has reduced marine life, prompting calls for government support to stabilize fuel prices.
On 8 Apr 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that diesel prices soaring above 50 baht per liter have affected local fishermen in Ban Yai Mom, Laem Ngop District, Trat Province, as fuel costs for fishing trips have nearly doubled.
The news team found that many fishermen have cut their fishing days from daily to every other day to reduce expenses, since fuel costs per trip are about 300–400 baht, while income from selling seafood such as shrimp, shellfish, crabs, and fish is only 200–300 baht, causing losses almost every trip. Furthermore, the extreme heat has warmed sea waters, reducing marine life and making fishing harder, worsening the situation.
Fishermen also noted that more people have turned to local fishing recently after border tensions and checkpoint closures disrupted other livelihoods, forcing them to rely mainly on fishing, which has led to declining marine resources.
Fishermen are calling on the government to help stabilize fuel prices to reduce their cost burden. The impact extends beyond fishermen to farmers and the general public who rely on fuel for their livelihoods and are currently facing severe difficulties.
