Khao Kheow Open Zoo celebrates Songkran with great excitement, proudly unveiling its adorable new arrivals: the "capybara trio," siblings of the popular "Ging, Gong, Kaew" group.
At 10:00 a.m. on 9 April 2026, at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Si Racha District, Chonburi Province, the zoo welcomed the Songkran festival with a grand event featuring the debut of its newest members. The "capybara trio" are the world's largest rodents, consisting of three individuals born to mother "Pookpik" and father "Siang" on 25 March.
These offspring are direct descendants and the younger siblings of the "Ging, Gong, Kaew" capybara seniors who are favorites among visitors. All three are currently healthy and have begun swimming and following their mother, charming fans at the capybara exhibit.
Mr. Narongwit Chodchoi, Director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, revealed that during the extended holiday from 11 to 15 April 2026, the zoo has prepared a full schedule of special activities to delight visitors. These include auspicious ceremonies to welcome the Thai New Year by paying respect and pouring water on the sacred relics from Sri Lanka, viewing the beautiful sand pagodas, and enjoying lively wildlife mascot parades throughout the day.
Additionally, there is the "Basket of Merit" activity, allowing everyone to feed the zoo's big residents like hippos and elephants, contributing to the support of wildlife welfare. Another highlight is the special Zookeeper Insight experience for red panda enthusiasts, who can learn about and closely interact with experts—this requires prior reservation. The Khao Kheow Night Zoo event offers a rare chance to experience wildlife life after dark.
To give visitors a special gift, Khao Kheow Open Zoo offers a 20% discount to those born in April as well as Thai students visiting during the school break, upon presenting identification cards. Seniors aged 60 and above continue to enjoy free admission. Everyone is invited to come experience the charm of the capybara family and relax during this year’s Songkran festival.
