Traffic Jam on Mittraphap Road in the Afternoon as Many Return Home for Songkran, Causing Long Queues

In the afternoon on Mittraphap Road, near Talat Khae Intersection on Highway 2, traffic was heavily congested with queues extending several kilometers.

On 11 April 2026, reporters reported the atmosphere of homebound travel during the Songkran festival this afternoon on Mittraphap Road. Traffic jams extended for several kilometers, especially near Talat Khae Intersection on Mittraphap Road, Highway 2, Tharn Prasat Subdistrict, Non Sung District, reaching Ban Wat Intersection in Khong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, covering over 20 kilometers. Vehicles could only travel at speeds of 40-60 kilometers per hour.

Officials from Nakhon Ratchasima Highway District 1, together with Ban Som Highway Police, opened a special lane from Ban Samrit Intersection to Talat Khae Intersection, spanning over 5 kilometers to expedite traffic flow. The main cause was vehicles overtaking inappropriately on a two-lane road, creating effectively four lanes, which slowed down traffic.

Police officers appealed to drivers to stick to the usual two lanes to prevent traffic buildup. They expect that this evening and throughout the night, more people will be returning home, causing traffic volume to rise further.
