18-Wheel Trailer Truck Loses Brake Control, Crashes into 7 Vehicles, 2 Dead, 8 Injured, 3-Year-Old Girl Survives

An 18-wheel trailer truck lost brake control and crashed heavily into 7 vehicles on Phahonyothin Road between Tak and Lampang, resulting in 2 deaths at the scene, 8 injuries, and a 3-year-old girl narrowly surviving.

At 14:45 on 11 Apr 2026, Police Lieutenant Warathep Srinoi, Deputy Investigator at Thoen Police Station in Thoen District, Lampang Province, received a report of a multi-vehicle accident with fatalities and multiple injuries on the Phahonyothin Road heading northbound, opposite the entrance to Mae Wa National Park, Thoen District, Lampang. He promptly went to the scene with Lampang rescue teams and nearby emergency responders.

At the scene on the road undergoing surface repairs, a total of 7 vehicles were damaged, including pickup trucks, passenger cars, and an Isuzu 18-wheel trailer truck from Saraburi Province carrying sanitary ware, which was identified as the cause of the accident. Each vehicle was heavily damaged.

Two people died at the scene: the owners of a bronze Honda City sedan registered in Bangkok, who were husband and wife, traveling with their 3-year-old daughter. The little girl narrowly survived and was urgently taken by rescue teams to the hospital. Additionally, 8 others were injured. Rescue units from Lampang, Mae Wa, and Aom Boon mobilized to assist and transport the injured to hospitals in Thoen, Mae Prik, and Sop Prap districts.

During the investigation, Mr. A Boonkum, 40, from Phitsanulok Province and the trailer truck driver, initially claimed that upon reaching the accident site, where road repairs were underway, he tried to brake but was unable to stop in time. He then crashed into the stationary vehicle ahead, which belonged to the family of three, causing a chain collision that led to this tragic event. The exact cause remains under investigation.
