Drunk Man Sleeps by Roadside, Police Rouse Him He Reveals His Wife Allows Drinking Only Once a Year

A heavily drunk man was found sleeping by the roadside. Locals alerted the police, who took him to the station to rest. The groggy man said he couldn't recall when he lost consciousness and admitted that his wife only allows him to drink once a year during the Songkran festival because she was away in another province.

At 2:00 AM on 12 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Pol. Col. Arthit Yakaew, Chief of Rayong City Police Station, instructed patrol officers to be vigilant during the Songkran celebrations and to crack down on drunk driving. Sub-Lt. Charan Khwanprom, deputy patrol supervisor, received a report from locals of a heavily intoxicated man unconscious in a roadside forest near Tha Banthuk Road, Noen Phra Subdistrict, Mueang District, Rayong Province, and quickly went to the scene.

They found Mr. Anusorn, 41, lying by Tha Banthuk Road, severely drunk and complaining of a headache, unable to drive. Concerned for his safety, officers took him to Rayong City Police Station to recover from intoxication.

When asked by reporters, Mr. Anusorn, slurring his words, said he had been socializing with friends and dozed off but didn't know when he lost consciousness before ending up sleeping by the roadside.

“Normally, my wife doesn’t allow me to drink. But since she went back to her hometown for the festival, she let me drink. I only get to drink once a year, so this is what happened,” he said.

However, Mr. Anusorn was not driving a vehicle but had simply fallen asleep by the roadside due to intoxication. Concerned for his safety, officers took him to the station to recover before arranging for his relatives to pick him up.
