On Songkran Day in Buriram, a fire broke out at the home of former famous Mor Lam actress Kamphong Kongsanan. She ran through the flames trying to retrieve valuable possessions but suffered burns on both hands.
This morning (12 Apr 2026 GMT+7), Lieutenant Jakkaphan Suktoem, Deputy Investigating Officer at Non Din Daeng Police Station in Buriram, received a report of a house fire in Lam Nang Rong Subdistrict, Non Din Daeng District. He promptly informed his superiors and coordinated with fire trucks from the Lam Nang Rong Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Non Din Daeng Municipality, and rescue units to urgently investigate and extinguish the fire.
However, reaching the scene was difficult due to heavy traffic during the long Songkran holiday. The hot, dry weather caused the fire to spread quickly, especially on the upper wooden structure of the house. Although firefighters arrived and promptly doused the flames, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to nearby areas, the house and all possessions inside were completely destroyed, marking a tragic event during the Songkran festival.
Upon investigation, it was found that the owner of the house was Kamphong Kongsanan, a former famous Mor Lam actress of the province. At the time of the fire, she was home alone and attempted to run through the flames to retrieve valuable possessions. This caused burns to both of her hands. Rescue personnel provided initial first aid before rushing her to the hospital. The incident caused severe damage; all possessions inside, including cash and numerous Mor Lam costumes, were destroyed by fire. Additionally, a car sustained partial damage.
Officials initially suspect the cause was an electrical short circuit. Police will conduct a detailed investigation and urge the public to increase caution by checking electrical systems at home, especially during hot weather, to reduce the risk of fire.
Kamphong Pairoa expressed shock with tears in her eyes, saying that she was home alone this morning preparing to water the plants when she suddenly heard an explosion-like sound inside the house. Seeing smoke, she hurried to get her phone to call for help and tried to move belongings and extinguish the fire. However, the flames were too strong and she suffered burns on both hands. She had no choice but to exit and wait for firefighters, helplessly watching her house burn down along with everything inside, including cash and many Mor Lam costumes stored in several boxes.
On the other hand, Mr. Ong-art Kamsaram, the headman of Lam Nang Rong Subdistrict, said that upon receiving the report, fire trucks had difficulty accessing the area due to severe traffic congestion from people traveling back to their hometowns. Initially, only a few fire trucks responded, so additional support was requested, totaling about four fire trucks. This allowed firefighters to control the blaze, but the house and all possessions were already destroyed, and a sedan was also partially damaged by fire.
He also reminded the public that during hot weather, it is important to check home electrical systems, especially damaged plugs or wires, and avoid leaving plugs connected unnecessarily to reduce the risk of fire.
