Phukets Songkran Festival Bustles with Crowds Bangla Road Most Popular, Heavy Traffic Congestion

The Songkran water festival atmosphere in Phuket is lively, especially within Patong Municipality, where numerous Thai and foreign tourists flock to play water on Bangla Road.

On 13 Apr 2026 GMT+7, reporters in Phuket province observed lively Songkran water activities at many locations, especially within Patong Municipality, Kathu District. Many Thai and foreign tourists gathered to play water along Bangla Road, causing severe traffic congestion on main inbound routes such as Rat Uthit 200 Pi and Taweewong Roads. All vehicle types moved slowly, and travelers heading into the area faced nearly one-hour delays.

Meanwhile, parking spaces along these roads quickly filled on both sides, prompting traffic police to expedite traffic flow at various intersections to ease congestion.

Regarding security measures, Bangla Road was temporarily closed to cars and motorcycles from noon onward, with additional CCTV cameras installed to ensure tourist safety. The street became densely crowded with people, while police patrolled rigorously to prevent pickpocketing and other crimes. So far, no legal incidents have been reported.

It is expected that more tourists will join the water festivities in the evening, further intensifying the lively Songkran atmosphere on Bangla Road this year.

In other areas of the province, such as Saphan Hin Park in Mueang Phuket District, merit-making and Buddha water pouring took place from early morning at 06:20. Later, residents and tourists continued water activities before attending events near Limelight Shopping Mall on Dibuk Road and Chalermprakiet 72nd Anniversary Queen's Park (Dragon Square) with the “Songkran No Alcohol Festival Phuket 2026,” starting at 16:00, adding color and fun to the Songkran celebrations in the province.
