Thai Soldier Injured by Bamboo Spike Trap Left by Cambodia in Satthasom Hills

An old battlefield turned into a trap where Sergeant Major, a team leader, was stabbed in the left leg by an old Cambodian bamboo spike trap while on duty in the Satthasom Hills. He was bleeding heavily and was taken to the hospital.

On 13 April 2026, reporters from the 2nd Infantry Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment (R.3 Bn.2) reported an injury incident during a mission at the Sarawut operation base on 12 April at 17:30. The injured was Sergeant Major Peerapat Mathurot, leader of the shooting team from the 1st Platoon, Company 123. While on duty, he stepped on a bamboo spike that pierced deeply into the front of his left leg, causing heavy bleeding amid tense conditions in the area.

However, the injured soldier remained conscious and responsive to calls before being rushed to Kantharalak Hospital's emergency room immediately. He is currently receiving wound care and awaiting X-ray results. Doctors have not stitched the wound yet and have ordered bed rest due to the significant blood loss.

The report states: The "bamboo spike" is a trap previously dug and concealed by Cambodian soldiers in the Satthasom Hills during their occupation of the area before Thai forces reclaimed it in past fighting. However, the area has not been fully cleared of hazardous objects, so risks remain.
