An old battlefield has become a trap where Sergeant Major Pierr Mathurot, a fire team leader, was pierced in the left leg by an old Cambodian bamboo spike trap while on duty in the Khao Satta Som area. He was bleeding heavily and was taken to the hospital.
On 13 April 2026, reporters from the 2nd Infantry Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment (3rd Regiment, 2nd Battalion) reported that a soldier was injured during a mission at the "Sarawut" base on 12 April at 17:30. The injured was Sergeant Major Pierr Mathurot, fire team leader of Platoon 1, Company 123. While on duty, he stepped on a bamboo spike that pierced deeply into the front of his left leg, causing significant blood loss amid tense conditions in the area.
However, the injured soldier remained conscious and responsive when called. He was urgently transported to Kantharalak Hospital and taken directly to the emergency room. He is currently receiving wound treatment and awaiting X-ray results. Doctors have not yet stitched the wound and have ordered him to rest due to the substantial blood loss.
. The report states that the "bamboo spike" is a trap once dug and concealed by Cambodian soldiers in the Khao Satta Som area during their occupation, before Thai forces reclaimed the territory in past fighting. However, the area has not been fully cleared of dangerous objects, so risks remain.
