Khon Kaen Songkran Festival: Khao Niao Road Bustles as Tourists Join Human Wave Event in Large Numbers

Khon Kaen's Songkran Festival on Khao Niao Road remained lively as over 50,000 tourists flooded in to join the second night of the "Human Wave" event, which was densely packed and featured a one-way format throughout all 15 rounds.

At 19:30 on 14 April 2026, Ms. Sabida Thaiset, Minister of Culture, presided over the opening of the second day of the Human Wave activity during the grand Isan Songkran Festival on Khao Niao Road 2026. The event was attended by the Khon Kaen governor, Khon Kaen mayor, heads of government agencies, as well as government and private sector personnel, along with Khon Kaen residents and tourists, totaling more than 50,000 participants.

Ms. Sabida said on the opening stage that she had heard much about Khao Niao Road's reputation for a long time and that this was her first time joining the Songkran and Human Wave activities with Khon Kaen residents and tourists in person. She noted that many people had come to participate today, and the event was filled with activities blending traditional elements with contemporary uniqueness harmoniously, grandly prepared by Khon Kaen Municipality for tourists to experience.

The Minister of Culture added that having over 50,000 people creating an exciting atmosphere for the Human Wave tonight reflected the power of the Songkran festival as an activity that helps build a positive image and generate significant income for the area. She also praised the people of Khon Kaen for their good looks, laughter, and the impressive experience they provided to everyone on the street.

After the opening remarks, the official ceremony began with a water-splashing ritual to spread happiness before starting the second night of the Human Wave activity. On stage, it was clearly announced that there would be 15 rounds of the Human Wave, all performed in a one-way format, sending the wave in a single direction for all 15 rounds without returning.

Once everyone was ready, the emcee gave a countdown signal before participants on stage began to stand and pass the Human Wave from the front of the stage downwards, continuing all the way to the Tiao Hong intersection—covering over 1.5 kilometers—amid cheers and lively music along the route.

The reporter noted that tonight’s atmosphere was extremely lively, with more than 50,000 people participating in the Human Wave, surpassing the first day. After completing all 15 rounds, symbolic fireworks were launched to celebrate the "Grand Isan Songkran Festival on Khao Niao Road 2026," creating excitement among attendees. Afterwards, many tourists continued walking around, splashing Songkran water and applying powder as they roamed the streets and alleys around Khao Niao Road throughout the night.
