
Bang Luang Subdistrict Municipality, Pathum Thani Province, organized Songkran activities to preserve the tradition"Swan and Centipede Flag Parade"including Buddha bathing ceremonies and water pouring to elders, enhancing blessings and strengthening strong community ties
On 15 Apr 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that Bang Luang Subdistrict Municipality, Mueang District, Pathum Thani Province, led by Ms. Sukanya Deesawat, mayor of Bang Luang Subdistrict Municipality, along with executives, village headmen, and community leaders, organized the annual "Swan and Centipede Flag" preservation event for 2026. Concurrently, they held Songkran and National Elderly Day ceremonies at Bang Luang Temple, Bang Luang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Pathum Thani, to promote cultural values, strengthen the community, and foster relationships among all generations.
Ms. Sukanya Deesawat, mayor of Bang Luang Subdistrict Municipality, stated that the "Swan and Centipede Flag Parade" tradition is a valuable and unique local custom that reflectsthe way of lifeas well as the beliefs and faith of the community residents, which have been passed down for a long time.
This project demonstrates the unity of all sectors recognizing the importance of conserving and continuing this precious cultural heritage. Additionally, it is a good opportunity to promote love and unity among community members and publicize Bang Luang Subdistrict’s cultural tourist attractions more widely.
The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Aekwit Meepian, governor of Pathum Thani Province, who presided over the "Swan and Centipede Flag" parade around the ordination hall of Bang Luang Temple. Then, Phra Sri Watchara Patthamakun (Thawon Thirajitto), abbot of Bang Luang Temple and chief monk of Mueang Pathum Thani District, performed the consecration ceremony for both colored flags and raised them on two poles in front of the ordination hall.
Following this, they performed Buddha bathing and offered iced rice to the monks. They also held the water pouring ceremony to honor the elders of Bang Luang Subdistrict, which is a key part of Songkran. This event allows younger generations to express gratitude and seek blessings from the elders to enhance good fortune, while all elders received commemorative gifts.
