The National Water Resources Office has announced monitoring for "high tides" influenced by southerly and south-easterly winds that are causing strong waves from 19 to 21 April, advising seven provinces to prepare for the impact.
On 16 April 2026, the National Water Resources Office announced monitoring for "high tides" during 19-21 April 2026, stating that
1. The influence of southerly and south-easterly winds covering the Andaman Sea, southern region, and Gulf of Thailand is causing stronger waves. This will raise water levels at river mouths connected to these seas and may flood low-lying areas along the Chao Phraya, Mae Klong, and Tha Chin rivers between 19 and 21 April 2026, including communities outside flood barriers, areas without permanent flood defenses, and along major roads such as Sukhumvit Road, Suksawat Road, and Rama II Road.
2. There is a need to monitor saltwater intrusion impacting water quality for consumption and agriculture. Relevant agencies are urged to closely watch the high tide situation. This applies to areas in the provinces of Samut Prakan, Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom, and Samut Songkhram.
