Warning of Summer Storms in Upper Thailand: Check Provinces to Prepare for Rain from 16-20 Apr 2026

The Meteorological Department issued the 5th warning."Summer storms"in upper Thailand. Check provinces to prepare for thunderstorms and strong gusts from 16-20 April 2026.

On 16 April 2026, the websiteof the Meteorological Departmentissued a statement about summer storms in upper Thailand (effective 16-20 April 2026) in its 5th edition, stating that upper Thailand will experience summer storms characterized by thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and hail in some areas, with possible lightning in some locations.

It will begin affecting the northeastern and eastern regions first, then the central region including Bangkok and its vicinity, and later the northern region. This is due to a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China extending over the South China Sea, strengthening the south and southeast winds over the lower northeastern and eastern regions, while upper Thailand experiences hot to very hot weather.

Residents in these areas are advised to be cautious of dangers from summer storms, avoid staying in open spaces, under large trees, weak structures, or unstable billboards. Farmers should reinforce fruit trees and prepare to protect agricultural produce and livestock from possible damage, and take care of their health during this changing weather period.

Moderate risk

  • Northeastern region: Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, Yasothon, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.
  • Eastern region: Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces.

17 April 2026

High risk

  • Northeastern region: Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.
  • Eastern region: Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces.

Moderate risk

  • Northern region: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, and Tak provinces.
  • Northeastern region: Mukdahan, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Buriram provinces.
  • Eastern region: Nakhon Nayok and Prachinburi provinces.
  • Central region: Lopburi and Saraburi provinces, including Bangkok and its vicinity.

18 April 2026 

High risk

  • Northeastern region: Mukdahan, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.
  • Eastern region: Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, and Chonburi provinces.

  • Northeastern region: Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Buriram provinces.
  • Central region: Lopburi, Saraburi, and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya provinces, including Bangkok and its vicinity.
  • Eastern region: Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, and Sa Kaeo provinces.

  • Northern region: Chiang Mai and Phrae provinces.
  • Northeastern region: Kalasin, Mukdahan, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.
  • Central region: Nakhon Sawan, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Nakhon Pathom, and Samut Sakhon provinces.
  • Eastern region: Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces.
